Eddie said this about when he first learned the news, and about his grandson: He wanted to be by his grandson’s side as he fought for his life, and by Anthony’s side as they both processed what had just happened. Jasmine’s father, Eddie Vega, immediately left his home in El Paso, Texas, when he heard the news of his daughter’s death.
”All I was thinking was I wish your mom was right here to see you. Anthony held his son once he was born, and said about the moment: They estimated that Tadeo had a short amount of time to live. The infant was named Tadeo, and once he was born, doctors discovered that he had severe, stage four bleeding on his brain. The race was on to try to save Jasmine and Anthony’s unborn child, and they delivered him through c-section. Her death was the result of a drive by shooting, from outside the home. An ambulance took Jasmine to the hospital, but it was too late- she was pronounced dead at the hospital upon arrival. They called the police who rushed to the home, and when they got on scene, they discovered several projectile holes in the wall of the home, as well as “obvious gunshot trauma” to Jasmine. In the early morning of December 23, at approximately 4:30 am, Anthony and the guests awoke to the sounds of eight month pregnant Jasmine screaming, before becoming unresponsive. They had house guests spending the night at the time, as well. They spent the evening wrapping gifts to put under the tree, before they retired to bed together for the evening. The night of December 22, Anthony and Jasmine were in their Tucson home, in the 1500 block of West Calle Guadalajara, getting ready for the upcoming holiday. In December of 2017, the couple was busy preparing for Christmas, when tragedy struck. (One source says that the two were married just 5 days before the murder took place, but most sources call Anthony her boyfriend, so I will describe him as such.) The two were over the moon about the baby, with Jasmine’s father describing how she was preparing for their son’s arrival, posting ultrasound photos to Facebook, and how much she just wanted to be a mother. By 2017, nineteen year old Jasmine was preparing for her first child, a son, with her boyfriend, Anthony Rivera, and the baby was due on January 4, 2018. She had graduated from Cholla Magnet High School, in Tucson, in either 2015 or 2016. Jasmine Vega was described as an “amazing, fun, loving, out going, and big hearted” person by those who knew and loved her.
